ARMED FORCES TRIBUNAL REGIONAL BENCH CHENNAI
1. Vide Notification dated 21st October, 2009 issued by Ministry of Defense, which has been published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 4, in exercise of the powers conferred by Sub-Section {4} of S.5 of the Armed Forces Tribunal Act 2007 [55 of 2007], the Central Govt notified the Regional Bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal at Chennai with effect from 26th Day of October, 2009, to have jurisdiction within the territorial limits of the States of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and the Union Territory of Puducherry. However, keeping in view the vast geographical area of the State of Andhra Pradesh and State of Telangana (included after separation from Andhra Pradesh), one Circuit Bench at Secunderabad was sanctioned vide MoD letter No 7(4)/2010/D (AFTC) dated 06 Aug 2010. The Circuit Bench at 1 EME Centre, Secunderabad caters to the cases of litigants of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States. The cases pertaining to State of Tamil Nadu and the Union Territory of Puducherry are filed in the Regional Bench at Chennai and cases pertaining to the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are filed in the Circuit Bench, Secunderabad
2. In the initial stage, the Regional Bench, Chennai, commenced functioning in temporary accommodation at the Food Inspection Unit, No.307, Anna Salai, Teyanampet, Chennai – 18 From 26th Oct 2009 to 23rd oct 2010

The Present Location (1858 Vintage Building) of Regional Bench Chennai was inaugurated on 24th October, 2010 by Justice A K Mathur, Chairperson, Armed Forces Tribunal, in the presence of Justice A C Arumugaperumal Adityan and Lt Gen S Pattabhiraman, PVSM, AVSM, SM (Retd), Hon’ble Founder Members. The Present AFT Complex was earlier the erstwhile Officers Ward of Military Hospital, Chennai
4. The Circuit Bench became functional at Secunderabad on 14 Sep 2015. It was inaugurated by Hon’ble Mr Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale, Acting Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the States of Telengana and Andhra Pradesh in the presence of Hon’ble Mr Justice Prakash Tatia, Chairperson, Armed Forces Tribunal, New Delhi, Hon’ble Mr Justice V Periya Karuppaiah, Member(J) and Lt Gen K Surendra Nath, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), Member(A).
